As we continue our rounds, today’s subject for an owner interview is BlairBrown.  While he doesn’t have as much experience as some of the owners in our world, he has put in 8 seasons in AU.  Let’s see what he has to say:

 

“Hi Blair, thanks for taking the time to sit down.  Let’s start with where you can home?”

“I live in the great plains.”

“When did you start following baseball and what’s your favorite team?”

“I’d say my interest in baseball started pretty early and the Royals are my team.”

“Who was your favorite player?”

“I’d say it would have to be a few players, Niekro, Ryan, & Osteen.”

“Do you have a favorite baseball memory?”

“Making guys bail out of the batter’s box when I threw my ineffective slow curve.”

“How did you find HBD?”

“I can’t say I remember.”

“Do you have a maximum number of teams you feel comfortable running at one time?”

“No specific number, but I can run quite a few.”

“What is your preferred method to build a franchise?”

“I like to build a strong pitching staff.”

“Is there a particular HBD team you would consider your favorite.”

“No, don’t really have one.”

“What particular aspect of the game do you enjoy?”

“Seeing how ratings/longevity translate to results is on interest.”

“How would you like to see HBD changed?”

“The complete detachment from reality that folks living in minor league cities would pay for babysitters, parking, tickets, food, ect. for the memorable experience of cheering for teams that finish 2-160.”

It took me a little while to convince this owner to join us in AU.  I’ve known alogman because of HBD for several years at least.  He runs Cobb & Kenny Powers and was the commish of Cobbfather for a while too.  Surviving 745 HBD seasons is a little easier to handle when you have 18 WS Trophies in the case.  Enough of the accolades and let’s get to the questions:

“What part of the country do you live in?”

“Chicago”

“ What is your favorite team and when did you start following baseball?”

“Cubs, started following baseball and collecting baseball cards around age 8”

“Who was your favorite player growing up?”

“Ryne Sandberg”

“What is your favorite baseball memory?”

“Going to Cubs games growing up, Cubs winning the World Series in 2016.”

“How did you find HBD?”

“Some fellow managers in another fantasy baseball game I play told me about the game and recruited me to join their world.”

“How many teams are you comfortable running at one time?”

“Hard to put a number on it, I don't think I've figured it out yet, lol”

“How do you like to build your teams?”

“Varies by team, I aim for balance, but will shift to build around the skills of my best players.”

“What is your favorite HBD team?”

“New York Torrones, the team name inspires me.”

“What is your favorite aspect of HBD?”

“The dynasty element of it, being able to see your players develop, accumulate stats over time, set records, get into the Hall of Fame.”

“What would be the one thing you’d change about the HBD (what’s the most important thing to fix?”

“It would be great if there were options to systemically enforce private world rules such as salary cap, prospect cap, etc. that you commonly see in worlds.”

grapeape has been around long enough to play 303 seasons while picking up 1 series title.  He’s only been in Addicted Users for 4 seasons currently but had an earlier run of 4 seasons.  Let’s see what we can find out about this HBD owner:

 “What part of the country do you live in?”

“Lifelong resident of Minnesota.”

“ What is your favorite team and when did you start following baseball?”

“Minnesota Twins, I grew up in rural Minnesota and did not have cable tv as a kid.  I would sit in our kitchen and listen to the games on the radio – somewhere around 1980.”

“ Who was your favorite player growing up?”

“Kirby Puckett”

“ What is your favorite baseball memory?”

“Jack Morris’ 10 inning Game 7 of the 1991 World Series win for the Twins.”

“How did you find HBD?”

“So long ago, I don’t recall, more than likely a yahoo search back in the day.”

“How many teams are you comfortable running at one time?”

“I do 7, but I would probably do a better job if I only had 2 or 3 teams, but I enjoy 7 so I stick with it.”

“How do you like to build your teams?” 

  “Each team is different, but I am definitely a draft and develop type while utilizing Free Agency.”
                                                                                              
“What is your favorite HBD team (past or present)?”

“Never really picked just a favorite one of my teams. Each team has their own little identity.”


“What is your favorite aspect of HBD?”

“Love the ML themed leagues or leagues where teams at least stay the same.  Would love to be involved in an NFL themed league one day on HBD.”

“What would be the one thing you’d change about the HBD?” 

 “Recruitment/advertising to attract new owners.  With filling worlds becoming more difficult for some leagues it seems they really need to put more effort into marketing.”
